What is deferent? What is epicycle? I understand that meters per second per second is the unit for acceleration, and I understand where it comes from. I cannot picture what it means, though. I don't know if this makes sense, but how does something happen per second per second? Or is this more of a concept? Theoretically, could the moon eventually, long from now, fall onto the surface of the Earth? Or did I misinterpret?
did Kepler give orbits a non circular shape and put the sun off center because he knew the planets were closer to the sun at times? or did her realize the planets were closer to the sun because planets had a non circular orbit?
Does the earth not have a constant velocity since according to the video and it would make sense that the planets move faster when closer to the sun, and we know that the planets' orbits are not uniform circles?
Why did Newton use the customary system instead of the superior, more often used metric system for the value of 1/20th of an inch? Is it because 1/20th is much easier to say than a long decimal? What were the similarities and differences between Ptolemaic system and Copernican system? In the formula that appeared at the 8:20 mark of the video, what does the 4.5 mean? (4.5w of the deferent = w of the epicycle) Same goes for the other formulas shown. I am also still confused on where the constant G came from (but I'm guessing we probably don't have to know). -John Mairone
