ABCs of Physics/Succes

What are the key ideas illustrated in the activity?

15 comments:

  1. The key ideas in the activity were being able to write information down, being able to have organization, and being able to communicate. By writing information down, you can easily check on what you have written when the information is needed. Notes, for example, is a great way of being able to prepare for a test rather than trying to remember something.Organization will make us become more fluent with good habits. If I have messy notes lying around, I won't be able to find the information I need in order to succeed. If those notes were organized, I would be instantly ready for an evaluation. Organization plays a huge role in careers too. In a career, you will need to keep track of files, blue prints, plans, etc. Communication will teach us how to be able to contact each other. If we aren't able to contact each other when we need help in this class, than how are we suppose to get any help at all (without asking for help from the teacher). Communication, again, will be used in job interviews, when meeting new co-workers, or when you will have to work together with those co-workers.

  3. The ABC's of Physics are not only essential for this course in particular, but can also be used in other classes. The A, which stands for always write things down, can be summed up with efficient note taking. Notes in this class are only going to help you so it is important to write what you need to know down so you don't forget it two days later. However, instead of writing whatever is on the board or whatever everyone else has, you need to make sure you understand what is in your composition notebook and that you are taking the best notes for yourself. Going through the motion of writing anything on the smartboard will not help you in the long run and possibly only confuse you in the future. It is essential to write important points covered in the class to help you study for "quests". So to summarize "A", try your best to take helpful, and usable notes. The "B" stands for be organized in the classroom and with your notebook. Organization is the most important concept to understand and to follow when it comes to any science course. There are many labs that take place throughout the year and staying organized is the key to success. All materials must be kept in a good condition and should always be returned to their original spot to maintain organization within the classroom. Also with note taking, staying organized is essential for not just a good grade, but for your understanding of the material. If your notes are clean and legible, that will only help you and your scores on future "quests". The "C" states for communication whether it's communicating with your peers/classmates, or communicating effectively with a teacher. Having effective communication skills is extremely important in a class because it will help not only the person asking a question but others as well. This helps all students get involved in class discussions whether it's on the blog or in the class, and it helps the teacher know if the students are on the right track. Having a strong communication between a student and teacher is just as important. Students need to be able to ask questions if they are confused on a concept and not be afraid to speak up because that will only hurt them in the long run.

  4. Writing stuff down, organization, and communication are tools that should be utilized in any class. Without these tools, learning would be useless. Writing stuff down allows you to remember important information from lessons throughout the year. Organization helps keep your ideas in order so you can study them without having to find information in the wrong spots. Communication is also important because it allows you to share ideas and opinions with different people. Also, if you do not understand something, its important to either talk to a classmate or the teacher. This is the only way you can get better.

  5. I very much agree with what everyone said, but what if there was something more. What if there were other key ideas being overlooked. Motivation could quite possibly be one of them. A very true and upsetting story inspired me to write this and it goes as followed. A college student - lets call him Bob - was incredible and amazing, when it came to baseball. He was in fact good enough that quite a few teams around the U.S. wanted to sign him on their team. The ironic and upsetting part was that he didn't want to run and play baseball and exhaust himself everyday, but would easily earn 1-2 million a year, and it was a sport he loved! If this was a poor guy with a poor family struggling to stay alive and healthy everyday, he would be running miles upon miles upon miles upon miles everyday, he would be running until he drops, everyday! Even if it meant he would have been able to help out his parents and siblings just barely. Lets take Bob's situation and relate it to a physics situation. Lets say that you were a phenomenal student and always followed your ABC's of physics. Then you were presented with an amazing job to be a physics teachers, either for high school students or college students. After about 2-5 years of teaching you slowly start to consider quitting. You are tired of coming home everyday exhausted and unhappy that you can't do some things you've wanted to do. Unable to decide what you should do, you turn to your students and previous students and see what they think. From that point on you never questioned yourself about being a physics teacher because you knew how much you were doing for others, your happiness came from helping others. All the support you received everyday kept you going and you kept inspiring new minds, astonishing students with how much of what you taught related to life. Motivation can be very powerful and may be a key idea being over looked, it should be discussed, helping students/people find what it is that helps them keep on going. Anyways it's just an idea.

  6. The sciences are all about testing and being able to prove your results. In order to do this successfully you must use the first key idea of the ABC's of physics, which is writing stuff down. A theory will always just be a theory unless you take your results and record them and can prove your point. If no one ever wrote down any data, no one could make any progress. People would forget things and nobody could trust anyone's word because they don't have the proof of what they claim to have discovered. The second key idea, organization, is what comes into play after you have already written stuff down. By organizing your new found data it can be easily understood and transferred to others to examine. Recklessly recorded information cannot help anyone if it is unable to be comprehended. Communication is the final key idea in the ABC's of physics, but this one is used in almost everything. You must communicate with the people around you all throughout life. It is specifically useful in physics because not everything can be figured out by yourself. Others have some strong points that you will not always possess so it is key to be able to confer with others and combine your brain power. It is the easiest way to get any questions answered and figure out problems easier than you could on your own.

  7. The three key ideas that we used in the ABCs of physics activity were writing down information, being organized, and communicating with each other. During the activity, we used these three skills to put ourselves in alphabetical order. We wrote down all of our names on a piece of paper because some students did not know each other's names. This was also our form of communication because we were not allowed to talk. Lastly, we used organization skills during the activity because we wrote our names in alphabetical order. These three key ideas are essential to being successful.

  8. The ABCs of Physics simply include writing down information, staying organized, and communicating. Writing down information allows one to remember any and all information they need to. Whenever they need to, they can look back to their notes and relive a lecture and the points they may have forgotten. Staying organized helps one mentally. If one keeps sloppy notes, the notes become nearly useless. Looking at a scramble of words is difficult and makes studying harder. Communicating is also very important because it allows people to learn through the help of others. The first activity the class had was to arrange the students' seats into alphabetical order. The ABCs of Physics made the task possible. In conclusion, these guidelines are easily applicable in any situation.

  9. The ABCs of physics activity includes three essential life skills. These are, as everyone else stated, the following: 1) Write stuff down 2) Be organized 3) Communicate.
Writing stuff down is always important. If someone doesn't write something down, chances are they will forget it. The thought could have been trivial, but it also could have been major. To lose it would be unfortunate. Writing stuff down only takes a few seconds too, so there is no reason not to. In physics, for example, it is crucial to record data found in a lab by writing it down in your notebook, because you have to redo the lab if you were to forget the data. Our brains can only remember so many things at a time. Second, we must be organized. Time is always important, and to waste time looking for something in an unorganized mess of, say, folders is always bad. Organizing information into sensible categories also makes it much easier to analyze it. Lastly, we must communicate with our peers, especially in science. Whether it is sharing a theory, asking for help, or wanting another person's opinion on something, communicating is skill that everyone needs to be successful. Overall, these three key ideas are all skills that will last us a lifetime, and should be utilized every day.

  10. The ABCs of physics consist of three key ideas which are writing things down, staying organized, and communicating. While there are many more ideas that contribute to success in physics, these are three of the most essential ones. Writing things down is important so that you will not only remember your thoughts but also be able to reference them and look over them when necessary. Organization is also a key factor of success because without organization all your thoughts and information are a mess. Most of the time if your data is not organized, you may not even be able to tell what you wrote down. Finally, you must communicate with others in order to benefit both yourself and your classmates. Communicating with others allows you to better understand the topic you are discussing and to get another persons thoughts and opinions on the subject. All three of these factors are very important to success in physics.

  11. AP1 G.S.

-Always write down information. If you don't write down information, you will be unable to study for quests, midterms, and finals.
-Be organized. If you aren't organized, you won't be able to find the information that you wrote, you won't be able to find assignments, and you will be unable to turn assignments in on time.
-Communication is key. If you have a question, ask your teacher, your classmates, or post a question in the comments section of the blog. If you don't ask for help, you will struggle.
